I found that I had a growing number of pages containing Christmas images, so I decided to give them their own index.

As Christmas light pictures generally need to be taken near or after dusk, the majority of these pictures were taken with the support of a tripod. However, I did fall foul of a breezy Winter evening once when I was trying to take long exposures and the inflatable decorations kept jiggling in the breeze, so I had to revise my camera settings and shorten my exposures, albeit I still kept the tripod.

The main problem with photographing Christmas decorations, particularly inflatables, is uneven lighting. The best advice is to expose for the highlights and then let the computer brighten up the darker bits later. If there isn't too much breeze, taking several different exposures will give better quality material for the computer to work with, but if there is a breeze, shoot on the lowest ISO you can get away with and save raw as well as JPEG images and if necessary process the raw files several times to pull up the detail from the darker bits.

I hope you enjoy seeing my Christmas pictures as much as I enjoyed taking them.
