STV Prince William is a sailing ship owned by the Tall Ships Youth Trust and used primarily as a training vessel. She is a 60-metre square-rigged brig; and she or her sister ship Stavros S Niarchos have put in an appearance at the Upper Pool of London during the autumn of most years this century. I say this century, as these are modern sailing ships, built at Appledore Shipyard during 2000 and 2001.
The pictures on this page came out of three different types of camera: 35mm compact, 35mm SLR and digital SLR. The film pictures were scanned using a CanoScan FS2710 film scanner.

I am starting this page with one of the digital images captured in September, 2005, when STV Prince William was tied up alongside HMS Belfast during her 2005 visit to London. |

These two atmospheric images were taken from the vantage point of London Bridge. The one on the left came out of a 35mm SLR camera, while the one on the right came out of a Canon Sure Shot 115u 35mm compact camera. |

The next two pictures both came out of the 35mm SLR camera. The one on the right doesn't open up to a very big picture, and maybe doesn't belong on this page at all. I knew that I'd been disappointed in the pictures I took of STV Prince William during her 2004 visit. I have an idea that the problem was low light levels, although these are both daylight pictures, so I should have been able to do better! |

My 2005 pictures were shot digitally, and I definitely had the advantage of a tripod when I took them. Here are two views of STV Prince William taken as the light was fading from the evening sky. |

I went on shooting long after the light had faded from the sky, and was reasonably pleased with the picture of the ship festooned with lights on the left; and the close-up of one of her masts and rigging on the right. |
