HDMS Absalon, a Danish naval vessel, spent a few days in London during February and March 2005, when she was tied up alongside HMS Belfast. My digital SLR, a Pentax *ist DS, was used to record her on the evening when she arrived; and then again in the daylight a few days later.

HDMS Absalon did not put up hull floodlighting like so many of the visiting British naval vessels do, so I had to make do with the little amount of light available. I could have done with setting a custom white balance, which I've since learnt to do when taking this sort of picture, but capturing a long exposure was the only way to go, whatever the white balance, and I think I've achieved this. I've got that glass-like water which Stephen so loves to hate! |

HDMS Absalon has a very non-angular profile, which I understand gives her a low radar profile. It makes her look like a toy boat, too, but I can assure you that she isn't! |

Here are some wider views, which include not only Tower Bridge in the background but also London Bridge City Pier in the foreground, along with nearby buildings including the Cottons Centre, the Hayes Galleria and the More London complex. |
