I found that I had a growing number of pages containing fireworks images, so I decided to give them their own index. These fireworks displays took place in a variety of locations, but I find that small local displays are usually more photographer friendly than the really big displays both because the crowds are smaller, and also because a display with too many launching points is a bit too unpredictable and the camera never seems to be pointing in the right direction at the right time!
It doesn't matter whether you shoot fireworks on film or digital: all you need is the ability to do long exposures ('bulb' mode is useful) and the ability to control the aperture of your lens. A tripod is also essential. With a digital camera, you also need to be able to control your ISO. If shooting on film, slide film is probably better than negative film - unless you're going for foreground atmosphere, in which case the ability of negative film to record shadow detail may prove useful.
I hope you enjoy seeing my fireworks pictures as much as I enjoyed taking them.
