We were really looking for a MacDonald's when we drove to the seafront at Plymouth, but when I found this lighthouse, I had to stop and photograph it and our stomachs had to wait! |

I've just had the following information about this lighthouse courtesy of Denis Barlow: Smeaton's Tower (the lighthouse in these pictures) was actually the Eddystone lighthouse situated 14 miles south of Plymouth from 1759 to 1882. When the new Eddystone lighthouse was built they dismantled Smeaton's Tower and rebuilt it on Plymouth Hoe. It is approximately 87 ft high. |

There was a man flying an elaborate kite from the lawns around the lighthouse. It consisted of three inflatable sections until he landed it unwisely, when there was a loud "pop", after which it was a two-section inflatable kite! |

After the lighthouse and the kite, we saw a large group of canoeists down in the bay. Here are three of them in different coloured canoes. |
